The Bellingham Bell company was founded by Patrick Meagher in 1981. At the time Patrick was a professor of mineralogy at the University of British Columbia and creating the finest quality ships bell became a personal challenge. After a period of trial and error Patrick produced a bell of unique and remarkable tonal quality, shape and finish that was to become the Bellingham Bell. Bellingham Bells adorn the decks of numerous yachts, commercial and military vessels on an international scale. Ships bells remain the primary core competency of the company to this day.

Ships; however are not the only places a Bellingham Bell can be found. Numerous installations exist with private individuals in homes, estates, camps and gardens. The Bellingham Bell has also become the perfect symbol for service, valor, dedication, reliability and commitment for; ships, military personnel, corporations, retirees, fire and rescue teams, schools, churches and weddings. We see unbound applications to which a Bellingham Bell is the crowning touch.

With more than twenty-five years of producing heirloom quality bells for any application the Bellingham Bell Company has been passed on to new hands. The company moved to Maine under new ownership in the spring of 2006. A partnership with a local Maine foundry was established to further refine and develop the product line thus reinforcing the company’s commitment to producing only the highest quality product available while expanding the products offered to include a 16 inch bell, a new line of deck mounts and accessories that complement these extraordinary works of art.

Most bells are not designed to achieve the quality of a Bellingham Bell. Many are sand cast products that are production run in large batches or spun from thin gage sheet metal. Some are then customized by engraving at the time of purchase. The engraving process, while effective, is often not adequate to reflect the individuality, the quality and the importance of its application the way a Bellingham Bell is.

Bellingham Bells are as remarkable and unique as the installation they adorn and the tonal quality of its ring is peerless.

Each Bellingham Bell is cast with the client’s choice of customization, integrally cast with the bell as a positive base relief sculpture protruding from the surface of the bell making the bell a true work of art. It is our casting process, however, that dictates, quite literally, that after each bell is created, the mold is broken. Each Bellingham Bell is truly unique.
